The hardest part of scientific writing for me is phrasing and manipulating words to express what I want to clearly and concisely say. There’s also the frustration of sometimes having so much to say that I have to somehow condense it down and other times not having more words to analyze my data, so it seems weak or not informative enough. I found it very helpful to do separate assignments for each part of the data summary because when putting it together, it was comforting knowing I had a general idea and skeleton to my final project. The comments were helpful and constructive to better construct and fix things for the final product. Scientifc writing is much more difficult than it seems. I took like 3 hours on one slide and when I finally drafted something together, I was like “lol wot, that’s it? I hate myself LOL” There’s much more work put in than it looks at end, so I have more appreciation for scientists especially in communicating their research. I thought methods would be easier, but again it’s pretty difficult to be concise and clear in wording-- that’s what I realized from constructing my Methods section. I think it was easiest for me to know what content I wanted in my abstract/background/motivation at the end because I had all this information and knowledge about the big picture of the project that it was easy to explain. I think it’s my love for teaching kicking in!! It was actually hard to have to cut the essay I had for my abstract into something much more condensed because there was so much to say!! I think it was easier to interpret and analyze data that was straight forward and only had one changing variable such as the cell-loading optimization, but it was more difficult to interpret the other data that had different parts you could analyze and make more than one conclusion from that data. Overall, I enjoyed being able to show all the knowledge I learned throughout this module in the final data summary and feeling accomplished!
