Spooky Halloween Public Speaking

Journal club was definitely the scariest part of my Halloween this year. I was especially nervous about the question and answer section of the journal club since it wasn’t something that I could be totally prepared for, but when I got to that part of my presentation I was surprised by how comfortable I actually felt talking about the material. I’d definitely gained a much better understanding of the paper from trying to figure out how best to describe it to others than I would have just from reading it (although reading it a few times definitely helped).

I wish that I’d asked more questions about the other journal club talks on the day that I presented. I was too nervous about my own presentation while watching the people who went before me and distracted by thinking about whether I’d presented well during the presentation after mine. Hopefully the next time we present I’ll feel less stressed and will be able to focus better on everyone else’s research proposals.
