the hardest part is over!!

The research proposal presentation project was a difficult process to think creatively and propose something novel since there's already a ton of research on many areas in science. It really makes you think outside the box and propose something new/different. Researching into how we would do it was also challenging since we're not very familiar with the field/equipment/methods. The biggest part of presenting is to seem confident that what you're proposing is a good idea/could potentially work.
This experience also teach a lot about working as a team on a project and presenting together rather than journal clubs which was on our own.

I enjoyed the feeling of it being over and am looking forward to the end of the semester!!

So much data

Module 2 went by so fast. I was actually really looking forward to writing the research article, because it felt like it would be a good experience of what research writing was like, and a good way to test my own abilities as opposed to writing with a group. When I was actually writing the article, I found myself struggling with various aspects of the writing process. There was so much data. Analyzing all of the data and then deciding what parts of it were most important to include in my results section took me so long. I agonized over analyzing data and making figures for the large part of the weekend, and even though I knew that I still had to write a discussion and abstract after writing the results section, I just could not find it in me to speed up the analysis process. I think this aspect is where visiting the BE CommLab would have been helpful to me, as I could have asked them for feedback about how I was deciding to emphasize certain results over others. Mod 3 >> Mod 2

Mod 3 was by far the best module in 20.109. We were able to make batteries using viruses and researched a novel proposal idea. It was also much easier to present with your lab partners instead of alone like in the journal club presentation. These last few days made me feel the most like a bioengineer and I'm looking forward to future lab work in the upcoming semesters.

Coming up with a novel idea is difficult but also really exciting.

After Mod 2, I was very excited for Mod 3. Woah virus battery that can light LED! Woah propose a novel research idea of your own! My teammate and I read some papers, but still quite procrastinate on choosing the idea for the project. Until the day before the elevator pitch, we decided that well, we couldn't procrastinate anymore, so we sat down and tried to think of a really novel idea. And we spent several hours in a seemingly infinite loop. First, we were so excited when we thought of an idea that seemed so original. Second, we used Google Scholar to confirm that it was a novel idea, only to discover that someone already did it like 5 years ago. Third, we repeated step 1. People seemed to already proposed everything possible with CRISPR, and every disease seemed to have a proposed cure. We repeated this loop lots of time. And then an idea came to my mind.
